The Earldom of Orkney and Lordship of Zetland refers to the first Norse and later Scots rule of both Orkney and Shetland.

History

The founder of the Earldom is in dispute with some sources claiming it was Rognvald Eysteinsson, Earl of Møre between 865-890 and others claiming it was Harald I Hårfagre, Harald I of Norway between 875 and 890.
