George Waterston (b. 1911, d. 1980) was a was a Scottish ornithologist and conservationist, best known in Shetland for purchasing Fair Isle in 1947 and opening the Fair Isle Bird Observatory on that island in 1948.

In 1955, ownership of Fair Isle passed to the National Trust for Scotland.
