James Halyburton

James Halyburton (b. Unknown - d. 10 May 1765) of Pitcut in Angus and Firth of Orkney was a Lieutenant-Colonel and Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland from 1747 until 1754.
The oldest son of James Halyburton of Pitcur (died 1747), he joined the British Army in 1721 as an ensign in the 13th Foot, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1750.
Political Career
He was first appointed to the Orkney and Shetland seat in February 1747 via by-election. He was then unopposed at the 1747 election in July, being appointed to the seat by his brother-in-law, the 15th Earl of Morton. He held the seat until the 1754 election.
