Levie studied Divinity at the University of Aberdeen. His first experience of Shetland was in a teaching role Yell, during a vacation from University. Following his graduation, he returned to Shetland as an assistant minister in [[Sandwick]]. He served here until Reverend Shand, minister for Nesting, passed away, and Levie took up the post. Levie had heart troubles in his later age, and spent the last five months of his life in confined to his bed.

Reverend William Levie (b. 30 August 1831, Aberdeen, d. 27 January, 1901, Nesting) was the Minister of Nesting and a County Councillor for Nesting between 1892 and 1895.
