'''James John Gordon''' (b. 24 October [[1891]], [[Cunningsburgh]], d. 3 June [[1978]], [[Dunrossness]]) was a [[County Councillor]] for [[Dunrossness South (Constituency)|Dunrossness South]] between [[1955]] and [[1964]].

He unsuccessfully contested the Nesting seat at the [[County_Council_Election_December_1929#Nesting_And_Lunnasting|1929 County Council election]].

==Biography==
In his youth, James went to the whaling off Greenland on the Dundee whaler Scotia. Upon his death, the Convener [[Alexander I Tulloch]] credited James with coming to the aid of his Fair Isle constituents when there was doubt about the ongoing survival of the islands, through the Fair Isle Conference, which occurred 7 and 8 June 1956.
