'''Florence Barbara Grains''' (neé Abernethy) (b. 2 November 1932, Whiteness) is a former [[Shetland Islands Council]]lor first elected in [[1978]]. She decided to retire from a lengthy council career in 2012.

She unsuccessfully contested the Whiteness, Weisdale & Tingwall seat at the [[Shetland Islands Council Election May 1982|1982 Shetland Islands Council election]]
==Political Career==
Grains was first elected at the [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1978#Whiteness.2C_Weisdale_And_Tingwall|1978]] for [[Whiteness, Weisdale And Tingwall (Constituency)|Whiteness, Weisdale And Tingwall]] ward, beating Alexander Arthur and John G. Rae to the seat. She lost the seat to Cecil R. H. Eunson in the [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1982#Whiteness.2C_Weisdale_And_Tingwall|1982 election]]. For the 1986 election she stood for the [[Aithsting And Sandsting (Constituency)|Aithsting And Sandsting]] seat as an independent [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1986#Aithsting_And_Sandsting|and won, beating Harold Leask]], also independent. For the following four elections, [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1990#Aithsting_And_Sandsting|1990]], [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1994#Aithsting_And_Sandsting|1994]], [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_1999#Aithsting.2C_Sandsting_And_Weisdale|1999]] and [[Shetland_Islands_Council_Election_May_2003#Aithsting.2C_Sandsting_And_Whiteness|2003]], she was unopposed. When in 2007, the boundaries of constituencies in Shetland were completely redefined, Aithsing and Sandsting was incorporated into [[Shetland West (Constituency)|Shetland West]], a three-member ward. Grains stood and was elected together with [[Frank Robertson]] and [[Gary Robinson]].
