James worked for the Union Bank first in Lerwick, then in Edinburgh before returning back to Lerwick, working under [[Alexander Mitchell (i)|Alexander Mitchell]].

James Hunter (b. 21 November 1850, Lerwick, d. 16 June 1908, Edinburgh) was an accountant, musician and Lerwick Town Councillor. His father, Samuel Hunter, was also a councillor in Lerwick.

Biography

James was educated in the Parish School in Lerwick. He joined his uncle James at the Union Bank, first in Lerwick, then after some time he was transferred to the Edinburgh branch. Upon his uncle transferring to Edinburgh, James moved back to Lerwick, working under Alexander Mitchell. He left Shetland again when he was appointed to the branch in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, before finally transferring to the head office in Edinburgh, where he worked until his death.
