James George 'Pete' Peterson (b. 25 September 1899, Unst, d. 11 November 1963, Lerwick) was the founder of Grantfield Stores and a Lerwick Town Councillor from 1945 to 1955.
Biography
Pete spent all his life in the grocery trade. He started work as an apprentice with Messrs D & G Kay, working his way up to becoming Manager. In 1931, he took over Anderson's grocery shop at Grantfield and grew the business considerably.
In WWI, he was decorated for bravery on the Western Front. After the war, he joined the council and was at the forefront of discussions around improving Shetland.
