William Arthur Alexander Tulloch (b. 2 September 1858, Lerwick, d. 2 July 1943, Lerwick) was clerk of the Lerwick Harbour Trust (now Lerwick Port Authority) and also a County Councillor for Lerwick North from 1901 until 1919, losing the 1919 election.
William first stood as a Councillor in an 1896 Aithsting by-election, but ended up receiving zero votes again victor George Johnston's 56. William had initially been put forward for the seat by Archibald Garriock, on the understanding that George Johnston was not going to stand, but by the time the latter decided to stand it was too late to cancel the by-election.
Biography
William was born at 45 Commercial Street, a premises in which he would later conduct business. He was educated at Hunter's School in Lerwick, later going to the Anderson Educational Institute where in 1872 he won the dux medal in Latin. He went on to George Waterson's College in Edinburgh and upon leaving education joined Messrs Laurenson & Coy, drapers and milliners with his uncle, Arthur Laurenson. In 1887, he became the sole partner to the business.
