William Henry 'Bill' Manson (b. 15 May 1943, Kilwinning, Ayr) is a former Shetland Islands Councillor, most recently representing Shetland North from 2007 to 2012.

He is a former chairman of Viking Energy.

Biography

Manson, when he was first elected in 1991, worked as a services superintendent at Sullom Voe.

Political Career

Manson first stood for election at the 1990 council election in the Northmavine ward but lost to James H. Manson by two votes. Following the death of James Manson in 1991, a by-election was held which Manson stood for as an independent and won, beating Thomas Balfour and James Peterson. He was unopposed for the 1994 election for the Northmavine seat. For the 1999 election, boundaries were redrawn and Northmavine became Northmavine, Muckle Roe And Busta. Manson again stood as an independent and won, beating Brenda Wilcock, also independent. Both candidates again contested the Northmavine seat for the 2003 election with Manson, still independent, winning with an increased majority against Wilcock, who stood as a Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate. For the 2007 election, boundaries were entirely changed and Northmavine became part of Shetland North, a ward which now elected 3 councillors. Manson was elected via Single Transferable Vote at the 8th stage along with Alastair Cooper and Addie Doull.
