James Moodie
From Shetland History Online
James Moodie (b. Unknown - d. 4 February 1724) of Orkney was a Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland from 1715 to 1722.
He was the second son of Royal Navy Captain James Moodie of Melsetter, Orkney. His mother was the daughter of James Douglas, 11th Earl of Morton.
Political Career
Moodie first stood for the Orkney and Shetland seat in 1713 against his cousin George Douglas, losing 5 votes to 9. He was then elected unopposed in 1715. At the 1722 election, he stood again against his cousin George but failed to get elected. The vote count of that election is not known, but Douglas received more votes than Moodie, ending Moodie's political career.
