The constituency of Gulberwick first begun electing in 1890 for the County Council until 1974, when the County Council merged with the Town Council to form the Shetland Islands Council.
Older editions of The Shetland Times would report Gulberwick as 'Lerwick Landward', and Gulberwick has also been linked with Quarff.
