The constituencies of Aithsting and Sandsting first begun electing in 1890 as separate counties for the Zetland Council Council. In 1974, when the County Council merged with the Lerwick Town Council to form the Shetland Islands Council, the counties were joined and elected as Aithsting and Sandsting until 1999 when it became Aithsting, Sandsting And Weisdale.
