Andrew Tait

Andrew James Rogers 'Jim' Tait (b. 14 November 1930, Brae, d. 2 October 1992, Lerwick) was a headmaster and a Lerwick Town Councillor between 1970 and 1972.

Biography

Jim went to Primary school in Brae before attending the Anderson Educational Institute. He graduated Edinburgh University with an MA and spent a year training as a teacher as the Moray House School of Education and Sport. He returned to Shetland and taught at the Anderson, Aith, Scalloway and Bells Brae before he was appointed headmaster of Sound School in 1977. In 1985, he became a fellow of the Educational Institute of Scotland.

After returning as a teacher, Jim worked for with Shetladn Salmon Producers in Selivoe.

He was a founding member of the Shetland Movement, and a co-editor of The Shetland Folk Book with John Graham.
