James Robert Jamieson (b. 7 October 1864, Lerwick, d. 26 July 1934, Aberdeen) was a flesher and County Councillor for Lerwick Central between 1904 and 1919.

He unsuccessfully contested the 1904 Lerwick Town Council election.

Biography

After completing a brief education, James went to sea as a fisherman. After deciding that a seafaring career was not for him, he began working for James M. Aitken as a plumber, but also did not enjoy career and eventually opened a fleshing business in Tait's place in 1885 in partnership with John G. Irvine. They latter added a grocery shop to their enterprise. Their partnership did not last long, and was eventually dissolved, with James going into business for himself thereafter. Through his new business, he received the contract for the Admiralty to supply meat and vegetables to H. M. Naval ships.

James's shop was opened in 1901 at 123 Commercial Street as a general grocery store. He also owned 125 Commercial Street as a fleshery. In on 31 May 1919, he sold his premises to Henry & Jamieson, who had 103 Commercial Street. He and his wife moved to Banchory, but struggled to settle and left Scotland to tour New Zealand as a place in which they would retire. Health issues meant they did not settle in New Zealand, and they returned to Aberdeen.

When James died, he left an estate worth £2,951 worth around £180k in 2024.
