- James Andrew 'Ooie Jeemie' Smith (1877-1943), shopkeeper and Lerwick Town Councillor from 1934 to 1941, as provost from 1936 until 1941, and Zetland County Councillor from 1922 until 1934.
- James Smith (1899-1981), merchant seaman and Zetland County Councillor for Bressay between 1949 and 1955.
- James Laurence Barclay 'Jeemie Blub' Smith (b. 1941), former marine engineer and Shetland Islands Councillor for Sandwick.
