John Campbell (b. 23 September 1887, Lerwick, d. 3 September 1954, Lerwick) was a pharmacist and Lerwick Town Councillor from 1925 until his resignation in May 1932. Campbell was also the Guizer Jarl in 1923.

Biography

The eldest son of the Burgh Surveyor, Alexander Campbell, John was educated at the Anderson Institute and was subsequently apprenticed with Arthur Porteous at his Lerwick pharmacy. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, in 1907, John moved to Edinburgh where he was employed by Basildons, and in 1911 he qualified as a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society at the Heriot Watt College.

From 1911 onwards, John returned to work back with Arthur Porteous until Arthur retired in 1932, wherein John took over the business.

He was the Up Helly-Aa Guizer Jarl in 1923, and was an advocate for the festival.
