Thomas Robert Manson (b. 10 July 1885, Yell, d. 20 September 1940, Lerwick) was a merchant and County Councillor for Yell South between 1919 and 1922, and again from 1932 until his death in 1940.

He unsuccessfully contested the Yell South seat in the 1922 County Council election.

Biography

Thomas began his career at sea with the North of Scotland Company's steamer Queen, before joining some vessels that operated internationally. He moved into herring fishing where for some time he was a part owner of the Cygnet with Captain Hercules Hunter. When that industry collapsed, he joined D & G Kay in Lerwick and was transferred to their Burravoe branch. While in Yell, he branched out into his own business trading under Manson & Co.

After selling his business, and just before the outbreak of WWI, he purchased the Royal Hotel in Lerwick and ran it for several years. He gave up the hotel after the war and returned to Yell.
