Westwood Hay

Colonel Westwood Norman Hay CIE (b. 7 October 1871, Bombay, India, d. 3 September 1946, Torquay) was a County Councillor for Tingwall between 1938 and 1945.

Biography

He served in the Indian Staff Corps, and on August 4 1893 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in that force. He saw active service in China in 1900, East AFrica in 1917-18, Afghanistan in 1919, India and Pakistan 1919-21. He retired in 1923.

He received a CIE in the 1917 New Years Honours.

Westwood was a member of the Bedford Town Council from Feb 1925 until Oct 1932, and again from 1933 to 1935. He inherited Hayfield Estate after the death of Elizabeth Hay in March 1937.

In WWII he was appointed as chairman of the Shetland Territorial Force Association. When Hayfield was requisitioned for use in the war, he moved to Torquay.
