William Anderson (i)

William Slater Anderson (b. 13 August 1890, Hillswick, Northmavine, d. 2 November 1962, Lerwick) was a joiner and a Lerwick Town Councillor between 1937 and 1952. According to his obituary in the Shetland Times, he was an active member of the Kirk.
He unsuccessfully contested the 1952 Lerwick Town Council election.
Biography
William started working as a joiner in Lerwick in 1908 with Messrs Williamson & Dalziel, and remained in that profession his entire career.
He was as Gordon Highlanders in WWI and was wounded near Arras in 1916. He later transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and returned to France as a mechanic. During the WWII he was with the Gordons Home Defence Company.
