Dr. James Cameron Bowie (b. 8 November 1867, Lerwick, d. 3 February 1932, Aithsting was a doctor and County Councillor for Sandsting between 1928 and 1930. He also was an unsuccessful candidate for Sandsting in 1910 and Aithsting in both 1913 and 1915.

He unsuccessfully contested the 1915 Aithsting County Council by-election.

His first cousin, Frederick Tait, was also a Zetland County Councillor.

Biography

James was born in Lerwick and educated first at Hunter's School and later the Anderson Educational Institute. He left the isles to study medicine at the University of Aberdeen and returned to Shetland to practice after graduating. He first worked in Clousta, and subsequently became the Medical Officer for Aithsting and Sandsting, a position he held until his death. In practice, he was known for his ability to treat eye and stomach issues.

He was the first President of the Walls and District Agricultural Society, founded in 1913, and was a founder and President of the Shetland Flock-Book Society.
