David came to Shetland in 1883 from Banff and was employed by the Lerwick branch of the North of Scotland Bank Ltd. He rose to the position of Agent in the bank after the death of William Irvine, a position he held for some 40 years, retiring on 30 September 1928, with more than 45 years service.

David Williamson (b. 18 September 1860, Arbirlot, Angus, d. 6 January 1937, Royal Hairdressing Saloon, Lerwick) was a Bank Agent and a County Councillor for Yell South first between 1895 and 1901, then again between 1902 and 1910.

His eldest daughter, Mary, was married to councillor Charles Mitchell.

He unsuccessfully contested the Yell South seat at the 1910 County Council election.
