Lindsay Robertson (b. 15 February 1905, Lerwick, d. 8 September 1994, Lerwick) was a County Councillor for Unst North from 1955 to 1958.

His father was John W. Robertson.

He unsuccessfully contested the Unst North at the 1958 County Council election and the 1960 Walls by-election.

Biography

Lindsay was educated at the small school in Hayfield Cottage under teacher Miss Donaldson, before joining the Anderson Educational Institute in 1910. After a short spell at Glasgow High School, he joined his father, John's firm, North Ness Engineering, aged 16. A decline in the industry saw Lindsay become a taxi driver in 1927, before securing work in commercial transport with his uncle, James Jamieson.

In 1937, he became joint managing director in the family firm. During WWII, the company had government salvage contracts, and Lindsay learned to dive. After the war, Lindsay delivered mail to Fair Isle via the Lord Curzon and ran the family business when his father retired, until Hay & Co took it over.

He was appointed the Danish Vice-Consul in September 1959, was decorated with the Royal Order of Knight of the Dannebrog in 1969 and retired from that post in 1970. He was also made vice-consul of Iceland in 1962, and full consul 1974. In that role, he received the Icelandic Order of the Falcon, retiring in 1985.
