Charles Robertson as Provost of the Lerwick Town Council, the listed dates reflect the period he held the title 'Provost' rather than Chief Magistrate (1890-1892).

Charles Robertson (b. 20 June 1838, Lerwick, d. 21 July 1895, Lerwick) was a licensed grocer (R. & C. Robertson) and Lerwick Town Councillor.
Robertson was the first councillor to hold the title "Provost" - until 1893 it had been know as Chief Magistrates or Senior Baillie.
He unsuccessfully contested the 1884 Lerwick Town Council election.

Charles first job was as a shopboy to James Arcus, a local merchant. In 1858, he joined up with his brother Robert as successors to Andrew Fordyce, opening R & C Robertson in Lerwick.
Politically, Charles was a staunch conservative and upholder of the established church.
