John James Robertson Meiklejohn (b. 9 November 1850, Caithness, d. 22 August 1912, Novar, Evanton, Ross-shire) was a farm overseer from Bressay. He was a County Councillor for the Bressay constituency between 1890 and 1892.
Biography
John arrived in Shetland in the early 1870s as a manager for John Walker at Maryfield in Bressay. Walker had sheep farms across Shetland, and John was responsible for managing the various flocks. The Marquis of Londonderry became tenant of the farm after Walker, and John continued on in his role. The Marquis wanted to establish a stud of Shetland ponies for his County Durham mines, which was successful under John's supervision.
In November 1892, he left Shetland to become the factor for Ronald Munro-Ferguson of Novar, Ross-shire.
