Charles Gilbert Duncan Sandison (b. 10 February 1892, Baltasound, Unst, d. 13 July 1967, Baltasound, Unst) was an author and County Councillor for Unst North between 1929 and 1937.
He was the fifth child of Charles (b. 1856, Cullivoe) and Mary Mundell (b. 1855, Bere Regis, Hampshire). His father was known as the 'Grandfather of the Council', as he represented it for over 30 years.
Literary Career
His book on the sixareen outlines the development of the Shetland boat from Viking times, through the import of Norwegian built boats and the development of local variations. It has been reprinted twice.
