Colonel Frederick Leonard 'Tiny' Dainty (b. ~1917, d. 2 January 2009) was a seaman and County Councillor between 1973 and 1975 and a Shetland Islands Councillor between 1974 and 1978, on both occasions for Whalsay And Skerries.

Biography

In 1976, Dainty proposed banning BBC Gaelic TV in Shetland, stating "if we must have foreign programmes let them be in some language taught in our schools, such as French". Other councillors opposed this, with Bill Smith saying he would "not try to ban any programme for aimed at a minority group", with John Johnson adding "In any case, Colonel Dainty can hardly understand Shetland dialect never mind Gaelic".
