Edwin Hyde

Edwin Thomas Hyde (b. About 1873, d. 12 August 1940, 54 Windsor Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire) was a governor of Zetland County Homes and a County Councillor for Whalsay.

Biography

Edwin took up pastoral duties in Scalloway in 1907. He and his wife were appointed Governor and Matron of the Zetland County Homes on 2 December 1911 and held that post until 15 May 1935, when they moved back to England.

He was the honorary treasurer of the Shetland Football Association from 1924 to 1928, and the chairman of the same organisation for the two years that followed. He was also responsible for starting the Boy Scouts movement in Shetland in 1914, in both Lerwick and Sandwick.
