Captain John Robertson or Robinson (b. 16 August 1850, Tingwall, d. 1 November 1939, Weisdale) was a merchant seaman and a County Councillor for Whiteness And Weisdale between 1890 and 1904.
Bayanne.info notes that he was on a ship with another John Robertson and as such decided to change his name to Robinson. All his children took on the Robinson name.
He is the great-great-grandfather of Shetland Islands Councillor Gary Robinson.
