Alan Fraser
Alan Bradshaw Fraser (b. 24 October 1907, Unst, d. 28 February 1999, Unst) was a County Councillor and Shetland Islands Councillor for Unst between 1970 until 1978, then 1982 until 1986.
He unsuccessfully contested the Unst seat at the 1978 and the 1986 Shetland Islands Council election.
Biography
Alan lived his entire life on his native island of Unst. The youngest of seven sons, four of Alan's brothers had already left Shetland looking for work when Alan left school aged 14. He began croft work, but his early years were blighted by loss. By the end of 1993, Alan had lost both parents and four brothers.
He worked with Pearl Insurance, and was known to assist young visitors to Unst by car. He opened a youth hostel in Gardiesfauld which was later bought by a charitable trust.
