Andrew Fraser Halcrow (b. 8 October 1877, Walls, d. 25 January 1955, Lerwick) was a County Councillor for Walls.

He unsuccessfully contested the Walls seat at the 1928 County Council election and the 1935 election.

Biography

When Andrew left school aged 13, he first worked on the roads, and later he went to sea on a smack at the Faroe fishing. In the 1890's, he went to Liverpool with the intention of joining the Merchant Navy, but instead enlisted in the Royal Marine Artillery and served there for 25 years, finishing there as colour sergeant. After a long career at sea, he returned to the UK in a office based role, which he held throughout WWI.

After the war, he joined the coastguard in Lossiemouth. He was eventually transferred back to Lerwick in 1923. In 1927, he transferred to Customs, as a coast preventative officer, a position he held until 1942. Latterly, he was an enforcement officer and warehouse inspector for the Ministry of Food.
