John Irvine (ii)

John William 'Donnie' Irvine (b. 2 March 1901, Lerwick, d. 15 September 1968, Lerwick) was a registrar and County Councillor for Gulberwick from 1955 until his resignation in October 1958.

Biography

John joined the police office of the Shetland County Council in 1917. He transferred into the county office in 1924 and was appointed to the position of County Clerk in 1935. In November 1939, he was appointed as Shetland's welfare officer. Upon retirement in the early 1960s, he had 44 years service with the council.

He was a keen footballer, representing Shetland against Orkney as a right-back. He was also the Guizer Jarl for the Lerwick Up Helly-Aa in 1931.
