Robert Henderson (b. 13 August 1838, Scousburgh, Dunrossness, d. 19 June 1898 Scousburgh, Dunrossness) was a merchant (R & T Henderson), Sunday School teacher (Cloddieknowe) and County Councillor in Shetland, representing Dunrossness North between 1890 and 1898.

He died in June of an election year, and his seat lay empty for two months before the County Council appointed Reverend Charles Whyte in August.

Biography

Robert inherited R & T Henderson's after the death of his father, Gavin, bringing his brother Thomas in as a partner. Robert was interested in growing Shetland's reputation as a tourist destination for trout fishing, and had built a lodging house for this purpose.

He was a member of the Parochial board, Parish Council and was a member of the School Board. He was also a member of the Baptist Church, and conducted services in Dunrossness and occasionally Lerwick.

He was described as a staunch supporter of the Liberal cause.
