William Jamieson (b. 13 June 1871, Sandwick, d. 25 January 1937, Sandwick) was a merchant and County Councillor for Sandwick between 1919 and 1932.
Biography
William left school aged 14 and joined his brother George in Edinburgh. William first worked there in a grocery business, and the brothers started their own in Lawn Market in that city. Shortly thereafter, they opened a shop in Sandwick named G. R. & W. Jamieson, calling it Central Stores. William, despite only being young, came up to manage the shop and did so for the next 50 years.
Additionally to their grocery business, they expanded into fishcuring for both white fish and herring. Both were discontinued by 1920. William was an early advocate of the poultry industry in Shetland.
