George Jamieson

Captain George Jamieson (b. 1 Dec 1870, Cullivoe, Yell, d. 14 April 1932, Bayanne House, Sellafirth, Yell) was a master mariner and County Councillor for Yell North first 1919 and 1922 then 1929 until his death.

Biography

George began his career at sea as a young lad and quickly rose to the rank of Captain in the Merchant Navy. In WWI, he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, serving mostly in the Mediterranean. After the war, he returned to Yell and purchased Bayanne House, where he continued to maintain the farm and kept livestock. He returned to the sea again until his retirenemt in 1925.
