Catherine Anderson

Catherine Janet 'Kate' Anderson (neé Johnston) (b. 17 March 1917, Wallacetown, Aithsting, d. 1 August 1995, Effirth, Sandsting) was the director of Home Furnishings and a County Councillor for Aithsting from 1959 to 1961.

She unsuccessfully contested the Aithsting seat at the 1961 County Council election.

Biography

Catherine attended Twatt School and later was dux at Lerwick Central School. Upon leaving school, she worked with Aitken & Wright and then the Prudential Insurance. She joined Home Furnishings around 1938, she was one of the first in Shetland to see the benefit of the knitting machine and travelled around the isles demonstrating their use.

Catherine's thirst for knowledge continued through into her 70s, when she took courses in reflexology, aromatherapy and massage at Edinburgh School of Natural Therapy.
