Thomas James Anderson (b. 21 January 1861, Bressay, d. 17 April 1938, Lerwick) was a wine and spirit merchant and a County Councillor, representing a number of constituencies. First he was elected for Whalsay And Skerries from 1904 until 1907, next Bressay between 1913 and 1922, then later he was briefly attached to Gulberwick from 1924 to 1925. Finally he represented Nesting between 1932 and 1935.

Anderson's first worked with William S. Smith, and was later employed in Andrew Smith's grocery shop. After feeling he had satisfactory experience as a merchant, he bought over the grocery and provision left by the late J. J. Heddell at the Market Cross and became a very well known merchant in Lerwick - and in Bressay, where he had opened a shop. Outside of work he had a great interest in agricultural. He was a governor of the North of Scotland College of Agriculture, president of the Shetland Flock Book Society, a member of the Shetland Cattle Herd Book Society, vice-president of the Tingwill Agricultural Improvement and Discussion Society, and he also acted as a judge for many of Shetland's agricultural shows. On top of these commitments, he also was a director for the Shetland Fishermen's Widows' Relief Fund and a member of the executive committee of the Shetland Chamber of Commerce.

He unsuccessfully contested the Gulberwick seat at the 1925 County Council election, and Nesting at the 1935 County Council election and the 1905 Lerwick Town Council election.
