The 1890 Sandsting County Council By-Election occurred on 14 April. This particular election was the subject of much controversy because both the Sandsting and Aithsting elections were deemed to be illegitimate by the council. James McCullie was 'elected' but upon a re-run of the election, Archibald Garriock was returned unopposed, and when on May 22 he took a seat in the council chamber, there was a vote to see what should be done, with 11 in support of Garriock staying on and 7 against.
