The constituency of Whiteness and Weisdale first begun electing in 1890 for the County Council until 1974, when the County Council merged with the Town Council to form the Shetland Islands Council.
Whiteness & Weisdale is one of the more stable constituencies in Shetland, with only 9 different representatives over 83 years and only two by-elections.
